Underground Cinema with Craig Baldwin

by Anthony Williams, MFA Candidate

The goals of the mentorship were to study media theory and video art and produce a short video and short paper based on what I had learned. I read the media theory book Digital Currents: Art in the Electronic Age, viewed dozens of works of avant-garde underground cinema, produced a short video work called “Prison Sex Slave” and wrote a short paper titled “Alternative Time, Space and Knowledge in Contemporary Video Art.” This mentorship was an eye-opening and rigorous exploration of avant-garde cinema that challenged me to master both the theory and craft of contemporary video-making.
